Red
Wing Boot Statue event part of Centennial celebration
Red Wing, MN—This summer the city of Red Wing will
look like a messy giant with two left feet who left his
boots scattered all over the city. His Red Wing boots that
is. As Red Wing Shoe Company marks its 100th anniversary,
a larger than life public art project is a feature of the
centennial events.
More than 30 large (4’tall) Red Wing boot statues
will be on display in recognition of the Red Wing Shoe Company’s
100th anniversary. Over 50 local businesses and organizations
are sponsoring the boots and will decorate and display them
as their way of showing thanks for the important role the
Red Wing Shoe Company has played in the local community
over the past century.
The boot unveiling will take place at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday,
May 4, at Red Wing Shoe Company’s corporate headquarters
at Riverfront Centre, 314 Main Street in Red Wing. F.A.S.T
Corporation that created the boot statues will present the
first four of the 30 boots to kick off the start of the
public art project. On behalf of the City of Red Wing, Mayor
Donna Dummer will make the presentation to Dave Murphy,
Red Wing Shoe Company president and COO.
The boot statues are larger-than-life replicas of Red Wing
Shoe’s famous style no. 877. Each boot statue measures
approximately 4’ tall X 4’ long X 2’ wide,
weighs approximately 50 pounds and is constructed out of
fiberglass. Local companies and organizations will creatively
decorate each boot statue. Style no. 877 is also the same
style as Red Wing Shoe’s “Worlds Largest Boot.”
The custom boot statues are the creations of Jim Schauf,
owner of F.A.S.T. Corporation, located in Sparta, Wisconsin,
who has over 20 years experience as a premier manufacturer
of fiberglass statues and amusement park figures. The Red
Wing boot statues are exact replicas of the original boot.

The Republican Eagle will be a media partner for the community
event and will be printing maps of the locations where the
boot statues will be located. The maps will be distributed
through the Red Wing VCB and businesses across the community.
